Marina Barrage, Singapore, 2016
Puddles of Light
Upgrade for Marina Barrage approach. White disk-shaped canopies were laid out rhythmically to create an umbrella motif, reflecting on the facility's water management function. Adjusting the output and height of column-mounted lighting fixtures depending on the disk size, the canopies are illuminated and appear to be floating. The wall of the existing building behind is lit to silhouette trees and sculptures and create depth. At the drop-off, circles of light are randomly projected to pool on the floor, creating an echo of the canopy layout.
